This is how Thomas Egon Larsen, CEO and one of the owners of Budweg Caliper, clearly expresses the company's medium-term goal.

In particular, the past decade has seen rapid growth for the Odense-based brake caliper supplier. Extensive investments in production facilities both domestically and in South Korea, a joint venture with the second-largest Chinese brake disc manufacturer, comprehensive automation, new warehouse facilities with 34 automated storage units, and the construction of a completely new factory have positioned the company to continue its growth.

On January 1, 2018, Budweg Caliper implemented a new ERP system designed to connect everything and support operations and development. The Dynamics NAV solution, delivered by Bredana Solutions (now 9altitudes), has fully met expectations.

Larsen emphasizes that the system fully supports the many, and in some cases new, automated processes.

Well-equipped for the future

“With the system investments we’ve made and the setup we have today, we feel well-equipped to introduce various types of automation and streamlining in the future,” says Thomas Egon Larsen.

He praises the consultants’ understanding of the business, which is not entirely simple, including an extensive returns system for used brake calipers from large parts of Europe, which are refurbished at the Odense factory. These calipers are stored in 34 automated storage units, and their integration into the Dynamics solution means there is a real-time view of inventory.

“This enables us to react in time and plan better,” says Thomas Egon Larsen.

Reduced lead time in production

The solution provides enhanced visibility for management, as well as for new employees across various locations.

Budweg Caliper previously operated a Microsoft Navision solution from 2009, which performed adequately until it was no longer able to meet the growing capacity requirements.

The new solution has introduced advanced functionality, including time tracking in production through the integrated Shop Floor Control module, which has proven to be a significant advantage, according to factory manager Jens Lund.

“All registrations are continuously processed in Dynamics NAV. This provides a much clearer understanding of the flow of goods and a vastly improved overview,” says Jens Lund. “The precise time tracking enables us to make more informed adjustments, thereby reducing lead times.”

Enhanced demand planning
“We are now able to allocate goods more precisely, which directly contributes to an improved delivery rate in line with customers' expected delivery times. In essence, we have become more adept at meeting customer expectations,” explains Jens Lund.

Additionally, downtime has been minimized, as the solution now possesses the required capacity to handle operational demands. The delays previously experienced with the old system have been eliminated, resulting in significant time savings in production.

“This will be an invaluable asset during peak demand periods,” adds Jens Lund.

Improved customer service

In the sales department, sales assistant and superuser Flemming Nielsen is also pleased with the new solution.

“It has become easier for us to use the system because it’s tailored to each individual role, providing the necessary data right at hand. Overall, it’s easy to navigate and search for the information we need,” says Flemming Nielsen.

Over time, Flemming Nielsen has found that integrating new solutions into the system is straightforward.

“When we need something new, it can be quickly integrated, and we appreciate the guidance from the consultants, who speak our language while also asking the critical questions when we suggest something,” explains Flemming Nielsen. “We now have a much better ability to respond to customers, letting them know when they can expect their goods.”
