DALI partnered with 9altitudes, formerly Dynalogic, to implement a new ERP system.
Peter Meldgaard is the Supply Chain Director at DALI A/S, Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, a company that produces high-quality loudspeakers sold in over 65 countries worldwide.
"In 2013, we realized that we needed to look for a replacement for our Concorde XAL solution, which no longer met our needs and was no longer supported by Microsoft. So, we started searching for a new solution—not to save money, but simply as a foundation for the future of DALI," says Peter Meldgaard, adding: "The choice fell on 9altitudes, who were great at understanding our needs."
DALI explored the market for both ERP systems and suppliers.
"We spoke with the major ERP vendors about various systems. But it was clear that their approach didn’t align with our needs. For example, we weren’t interested in a rigid process with extensive analysis, requirement specifications, etc. We also didn’t find it reassuring that they were vague when discussing the future possibilities with their system," explains Peter Meldgaard.
"However, when we started discussions with 9altitudes, we felt that we had found a partner who truly understood our needs. So, we decided on a Dynamics NAV solution, delivered agiley by 9altitudes."
At DALI, a small but skilled project organization was created to prepare the transition from Concorde XAL to Dynamics NAV.
"We had two people leading the project: DALI's CFO, Søren Rix Ingvartsen, and myself, who held the overall responsibility for the new system. We were the key stakeholders in the process because our areas of expertise would together account for 75% of the upcoming system," explains Peter Meldgaard.
As an introduction to the agile project, 9altitudes conducted a three-day preliminary workshop for DALI's small project team, where they worked very concretely to gather knowledge from across the company:
"We sat down with representatives from other departments and mapped out which processes the new system should handle and what additional requirements the organization had. After that, we met with 9altitudes to review all processes and requirements in relation to NAV. Specifically, we assessed together whether each process was standard in NAV, whether it could be created, or whether it was impossible. This resulted in a so-called Fit/Gap analysis," says Peter Meldgaard.
The result of the Fit/Gap analysis was an important part of the preliminary report and project description that the project team received afterward.
"Afterward, we reviewed the preliminary report together with the individual process owners and decided to what extent it was necessary to adjust the standard version of NAV to achieve the desired system. It's clear: if a lot of programming is required, the price increases," explains Peter Meldgaard.
Following this process, which spanned through the spring, DALI finalized a net project that 9altitudes began to implement into a concrete NAV solution, while DALI worked on converting products from XAL to NAV and creating approximately 200 new item lists.
DALI conducted testing during the Christmas holidays of 2013 and went live as planned on February 1, 2014, after having trained employees in the new system along the way.
"As part of our new NAV solution, we were also able to take important support programs into use for electronic invoicing and document scanning. Furthermore, it became possible for us to allow foreign distributors to pull invoicing data themselves, as well as create electronic picking in the warehouse and send data directly to distributors," says Peter Meldgaard, who is pleased with the new opportunities that make daily operations easier for both DALI and key partners.
"Throughout the entire project, working with Dynalogic has been an exceptionally positive experience. They demonstrated a deep understanding of our unique needs and were able to align the system’s structure and logic with our requirements seamlessly," says Peter Meldgaard.
"One of the most impressive aspects of our collaboration was the transparency, especially regarding costs. We had a clear agreement: if 9altitudes did not specify additional charges, there would be none. This honesty eliminated the risk of unexpected costs, which made the process much smoother."
Key Factors Driving the Successful Implementation
"We dedicated considerable time and effort upfront to ensure the system would meet our exact needs and to familiarize the entire organization with it before the go-live. This was possible because the whole team—Søren, myself, and others—actively prioritized the project. Furthermore, the expertise and professionalism of 9altitudes provided us with confidence and security every step of the way. The entire process was not only productive but also reassuring. Our board, initially apprehensive about the ERP transition, has now expressed complete satisfaction with the outcome. It has been a smooth and successful journey for everyone involved," concludes Peter Meldgaard, Supply Chain Director at DALI A/S.
